Classification Of Pressure Vessel

The methods for classifying pressure vessels in different countries vary from country to country. This section focuses on the classification methods in China's Pressure Vessel Safety Technology Supervision Regulations.

1.Classified by pressure level
2.Classified by role of containers in production
3.Classified by installation method
4.Classified by security technology management

1.Classified by pressure-bearing mode

External pressure vessel: when the internal pressure of the container is less than an absolute atmospheric pressure (about 0.1MPa), it is also known as "vacuum vessel ".

Internal pressure vessels: (classified according to design pressure P) :
Low pressure vessel        0.1 MPa≤p<1.6 MPa
Medium pressure vessel    1.6 MPa≤p<10.0 MPa
High pressure vessel       10 MPa≤p<100 MPa
Ultrahigh pressure vessel    p≥100MPa

2.Classified by role of containers in production

Reaction pressure vessel (code R)
Heat exchange pressure vessel (code E)
Separation pressure vessel (code S)
Storage pressure vessel (code C, where the tank code is B)

3.Classified by installation method

Stationary pressure vessel
Mobile pressure vessel (The pressure vessel of this installation has its special requirements in terms of structure, use and safety.)

4.Classified by security technology management

Classification principle: pressure vessels are classified according to the product size of pressure and volume, the harm degree of medium and the function of vessels.

There are three types of pressure vessel according to this classification, and here is a brief introduction to the third type of pressure vessel.

A third type of pressure vessel has one of the following conditions:

A.High pressure vessel
B.Medium pressure vessel (Extremely hazardous and highly hazardous media only)
C.Medium pressure storage vessel (Only hazardous media with a moderate degree of flammability or toxicity, and pV product greater than or equal to 10 MPa·m3)
D.Medium pressure reaction vessel (Only hazardous media with a moderate degree of flammability or toxicity, and pV product greater than or equal to 0.5 MPa·m3)
E.Low pressure vessel (Extremely hazardous and highly hazardous media only with pV product greater than or equal to 0.2 MPa·m3)
F.High pressure and medium pressure shell and tube exhaust-heat boiler
G.Medium pressure glass lined pressure vessel
H.Pressure vessels made of materials of higher strength
I.Mobile pressure vessel, including: railway tanker (medium is liquefied gas or cryogenic liquid)
